PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli has cautioned Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak against defending the transfer of RM42 million from SRC International Sdn Bhd to his private bank accounts as 'corporate social responsibility'.

"I don't know whether his answer in Parliament is a prelude to claiming that SRC is entitled to transfer funds to his account, but I caution him that the people will not be amused," Rafizi told Malaysiakini today.

The Pandan lawmaker was responding to Najib's parliamentary reply, in which the prime minister said government-linked corporations (GLC) only give politicians money for CSR programmes, such as flood relief aid.

Rafizi said the giving of money for CSR programmes by GLCs are good, if the funds go direct to the recipient.

"This is where Najib has to be very careful if he ever plans to put the SRC transfer of funds into his personal account in the same category as another CSR programme by a GLC, because the money went into his personal account instead of going directly to the recipients," he said.

Najib is alleged to have received the RM42 million late last year and early this year from the Finance Ministry-owned SRC International and its subsidiaries.

The prime minister has denied any wrongdoing or that he used public money for personal gain.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is investigating the alleged transfer, but said it still has to interview two top SRC executives.

Najib is scheduled to answer in Parliament, on Dec 3, to questions on the RM42 million as well as the RM2.6 billion donation he received in 2013.

The RM2.6 billion has been described as a political donation from a Middle Eastern source, but critics such as former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad have refused to accept this.
