Kedah menteri besar Mukhriz Mahathir is prepared to step down from his post, if there are any local leaders who are popular and able to convince the people, come the 14th general election.

That would happen, he said, if the people in the state do not support him, he was quoted in Sinar Harian today.

"I hope all parties would cooperate with my administration if the rakyat is with me. This is to ensure that we would consider administering the state until the 14th general election," he said during a police award ceremony in Alor Setar yesterday.

Also present were Deputy InspectorGeneral of Police Noor Rashid Ibrahim.

Mukhriz, who is the fourth son of former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, said all including assemblyperson and MPs should unite if the state is to continue ahead with his administration.

The Kedah MB, who is also state Umno liaison chief, was commenting on a viral posting made on Facebook account owner Edisi Siasat who stated ‘Alhamudulillah YAB DS MM sedia berundur sebagai MB Kedah demi kelangsungan Umno' (Praise be to god that MM (Mukhriz) is willing to let go the Kedah MB post for Umno's continuity).
