PKR secretary-general Rafizi Ramli has expressed regret over PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang's statement that the Islamist party would not be voting down Budget 2016.

"I hope PAS reconsiders the decision not to vote down the budget.

"I fear a decision not to vote down the budget by any opposition MP from any party does not sit well with our conscience and the general public," Rafizi told Malaysiakini .

He said this is because the 2016 budget tabled by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak is the "worst in recent memory".

Rafizi added it is also the will of the people to see Najib removed from office.

"Four out of five people are not happy with him," he said.

"Therefore I feel there is nothing left that is good about his administration that warrants a bipartisan approach.

"In fact, I think it is a moral duty of every MP to vote down the budget in order to get rid of Najib," he said.

Akin to no-confidence vote

Sinar Harian reported Hadi saying yesterday that all PAS MPs will not vote against Budget 2016.

Voting down the budget would be akin to a vote of no confidence for Najib, a matter at the forefront of the present parliamentary session.

However PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan has said that Hadi supports "in principle" a no-confidence vote against the prime minister.
