Umno secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor reminded the party’s Pusat Bandar Taman Cempaka branch not to host any event that may put party leaders on a collision course.

Tengku Adnan said this is because other parties can take advantage of such events to create problems among Umno leaders.

He said action can also be taken against the organiser if Saturday’s programme – a hi-tea event with former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad - is found to breach party ethics and constitution.

“I don’t know why they want to call Mahathir (photo) .

"What is this Pandan division’s intention? We need to know this.

“They can go ahead if the intenion is good, and if it does not affect the party but if it breaches ethics, action needs to be taken (against the organiser),” he told a press conference at the Kuala Lumpur City Hall today.

Mahathir is on a mission to oust Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, who he said is not fit to hold office following allegations of corruption.

The Pusat Bandar Taman Cempaka branch, which comes under the Pandan Umno division, said it is hosting the event to allow Umno members to get Mahathir’s side of the story, after hearing from Najib.

It is the first Umno branch to host an event featuring Mahathir amid the current controversies over the 1MDB issue and the RM2.6 billion deposited into Najib's personal bank accounts.
