Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Nancy Shukri today cautiously urged those joining the Himpunan Rakyat Bersatu (People's Rally) to think wisely before acting.

She, however, stressed that this does not mean she is condemning the rally, a counter-move to the Bersih 4 rally on Aug 29 and 30.

"I hope whoever participates in the rally would think about the implications of what they are doing. So think wisely.

"I’m not saying that we are condoning the yellow shirts (Bersih supporters), nor I am saying that the red shirts (Himpunan Rakyat Bersatu supporters) are right or wrong. It is for them to think wisely why they want to participate," she said.

To another question about the supposed racial incitement associated with the Sept 16 rally, Nancy said there should not be incitement with or without a rally.

"By inciting each other, it doesn't help our country develop. We must bear in mind that we need each other. Regardless of your race or religion, we need each other to grow […]

"I am sad if anything happens because of all the religious or racial issues. I’m very sad because it is not a healthy environment for our children to grow," she said.

She also urged Malaysians to live up to its reputation of being peace-loving and hospitable people.

Police said it will not allow the Sept 16 rally due to security reasons, but Gabungan NGO-NGO Malaysia president Jamal Md Yunos said the rally will go on come what may.

He said the rally will be held at Petaling Street and Bukit Bintang – where most traders are ethnic Chinese – as payback for the Bersih 4 rally which he said disrupted business at Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman where most traders are Malay.

Jamal reportedly said that Bersih 4 participants were mostly Chinese, and had insulted Malay leaders when they called for the resignation of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak following graft allegations.
