Auditor-General Ambrin Buang is confident 1MDB's final audit report will be completed by the year's end.

"I am quite confident we can complete the audit before end of this year," he said at the sidelines of the International Conference on Governance, Risk and Control.

When asked if his department was facing any hindrances towards this similar to what had been faced by the MACC and the now disbanded task force, he replied,"So far so good."

He admitted the auditor-general's department had initially faced problems in getting 1MDB's report.

"They have now given us the documents although earlier I mentioned we had some problems getting some documents," he disclosed.

With heaps of the documents in hands, Ambrin (photo) said, the challenge now was for the department to process the documents.

"This will take time, so we cannot complete it as soon as you all want," he said.

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak had ordered the auditor-general and Public Accounts Committee (PAC) to vet 1MDB's account in March.

AG removed, task force disbanded

On July 9, a copy of the interim report on the 1MDB audit was submitted to the PAC. Finance Minister II Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah claimed the interim report had clear 1MDB of any irregularities.

He then urged critics of 1MDB to stop making unfounded allegations as the interim report had found no evidence of wrongdoing.

In the background meanwhile, the special task force formed earlier to probe 1MDB and RM2.6 billion that went into Najib's private bank was disbanded .

It was reported that officers of Bank Negara and the MACC were probed earlier.

Following this, then attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail's (photo) service was was terminated amidst speculation that he was about to prosecute the premier.

Shortly after, the PAC was forced to adjourn its 1MDB hearing as four of its members, including then chief Nur Jazlan Mohamed were appointed to the cabinet.
