The MACC says it will address perceptions that Malaysia is corrupt with facts.

"There will always be that perception but effective prevention measures can be done with facts," MACC Deputy Commissioner (Prevention) Mustafar Ali said at a press conference in Putrajaya today.

He said this when asked to comment on how the commission will deal with perceptions during the 16th International Anti-Corruption Commission (IACC) meet in Putrajaya.that Malaysia is corrupt due to various scandals such as 1MDB

He, however, refused to answer questions on how scandals such as the RM2.6 billion donation into Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's private accounts will affect the three-day forum.

He also refused to take other questions not related to the conference

"There are 1,001 questions that need to be answered but today it is about the conference," Mustafar said.

IACC is the biggest anti-corruption conference in the world with at least 130 countries participating.

Intense scrutiny

The event from Sept 2 to 4 was supposed to be officiated by Najib.

However, it was announced last week that Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Paul Low will be the guest-of-honour instead.

Najib has been under intense scrutiny over the RM2.6 billion donation as well as other allegations that he siphoned RM41 million through SRC International.

The MACC has acknowledged that the RM2.6 billion is indeed a donation but said it is still being investigated.

They plan to question Najib over the matter and have already interviewed the Middle Eastern donor.
