Restless: The immediate solution is for Najib Abdul Razak to step down and make way for an uncontroversial figure to helm the nation, regardless of whether he is from Umno or the opposition.

This person must be a statesman, moderate and objective in his approach. This is the first step to arresting the sliding ringgit and the economic woes that come with it.

Secondly, Najib’s unrelenting efforts are to prevent his arrest and to frustrate the people, and hopefully, after some time the controversy will cool down and later swept under the carpet. Hence, we must not allow him to buy time.

Parallel with that, the plans are allegedly to incapacitate the Election Commission (EC) with some new faces/policies, gerrymander the electoral boundaries, perform some magic to increase the foreigners with identity cards and neuter his Umno division heads with underhand tactics.

Next, throw some crumbs to the people or his BN MPs to pacify them. When this does not work, he will play the dangerous race and religious card and have Umno goons/NGOs stir up trouble.

Ourvotesdecide: To execute Dr Mahathir Mohamad's plan, the army and police must stay very professional and neutral to let the democratic process proceeds and the judiciary too must be completely independent if any legal issue(s) is to be determined in the process.

We urgently need a completely clean, fresh, fair and firm leadership which respect the rule of law to save our beloved country, Malaysia.

I fully agree with this. One step at a time. This way, those idiots who claimed that we are out

to topple the government will have nothing more to say.

Abasir: And Anand, what about those long-named, filthy-rich fellows living in palatial abodes (usually on hilltops) who periodically pontificate about good governance, integrity and such?

Haven't any of them received ‘divine inspiration’ to speak up? I've always thought signal strength is excellent in their parts.

Multi Racial: In my opinion, the opposition should be realistic to allow BN to continue to govern until GE14. However, they can use it to negotiate the following:

1) Bersih demand for clean and fair elections should be implemented.

2) The judiciary, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), EC, the attorney-general (AG), police and Bank Negara should be made independent.

The PM can nominate the heads of these institutions but this must be approved by a joint committee comprising both BN and Pakatan. Also once appointed, the PM should not have the power to terminate their service.

3) The new government has to make fighting corruption and racialism as its priority.

4) Whoever is openly supporting Najib in the current crisis cannot be in the government.

5) The PM should either be former Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah (Ku Li) or former DPM Muhyiddin Yassin.

Ipoh Pp: Multi Racial, I agreed totally with your suggestions. Only that the opposition has to be very, very careful not to be caught in a trap.

What stops whoever who is appointed as PM from Umno from sending the whole lot of opposition MPs to Bamboo River (Sungai Buloh)? They are capable of doing this.

Democrat: It will be important for the opposition to take note of what happened in the Maldives recently.

The ruling government placed ousted president Mohamed Nasheed under house arrest instead of the prison where he was serving 13 years for trumped-up charges of terrorism.

This was to get the votes of the MPs from his party, which is the largest opposition, to pass a controversial land law. After it was passed, they sent Nasheed back to jail. Umno might do the same. Beware.

Headhunter: Funny, when they perpetrated it in Perak against the opposition, they bragged about it and celebrated the occasion as if they had won the big sweep.

Now that they are facing the same situation, they cry foul and whine like a kid being deprived of a new toy and make unfounded accusations against so-called plotters. I say serve them right. God does hear our prayers, I guess.

James TCLow: The whole nation is suffocating. This warrior from ‘Bugisia’ who is the number one patriot of ‘Kangkungland’ has other plans. He will not go down without bringing us along.

6th Generation Immigrant: The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) must quickly return to doing its job with complete professionalism. The PM and home minister do not own the PDRM nor does the PDRM need to be beholden.

The PDRM must remind themselves that they are here to serve the Agong, the country and the citizens (including those who do not agree with a rogue government).

It’s not too late. There was light at the end of the tunnel when the inspector-general of police (IGP) sees a vote of no-confidence as a democratic process and not a crime. It’s not too late.

We know of at least two senior officers of the Special Branch trying to maintain their professionalism. It’s not too late for PDRM to right itself. It starts with the IGP.
