Perkasa: Malays 'bangsat' despite Umno ruling since Merdeka
Perkasa president Ibrahim Ali has disagreed with Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's claim that Malays will become 'bangsat' (bastardised) if Umno loses federal power.
On the contrary, he argued Malays are still in the doldrums despite Umno ruling since Merdeka.
He noted how the Malays could only purchase low-cost houses or affordable homes compared to other races.
"Even though Umno has been ruling since Merdeka, there are still Malays who are 'bangsat'. Do you understand?" he told a press conference.
"The Malays can't (afford to) live in Seri Kembangan, Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Mont Kiara or wear clothes worth RM20,000," he said.
He also disagreed with Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's statement that Malays will be ' bangsat ' (bastardised) if Umno loses power, as it is unbecoming for such words to be said by someone who occupy that office.
“That word is uncalled for and if Najib said Umno and BN would lose then the country's economy or security would be affected, would be more accurate.
"This is because Umno has shared powers with other parties since 1957 and the opposition in two terms together have split,” he said.
Ibrahim also agreed with Umno veteran Sanusi Junid, who said the Malays are not bastardised but leaders who cause Umno's defeat are ' bangsat '.
"Yes, I always agree with his views," said the Perkasa boss.
The Perkasa president was asked to comment on Najib's speech when launching a division in Perlis over the weekend.
Mara urged to sell land
On another matter, Ibrahim urged Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) to sell its land in Australia worth RM63 million as well as other assets to fund students who are unable to obtain scholarships and loans for their studies overseas.
He claimed that 40 students had told him of their financial woes in continuing their studies because they did not obtain scholarships or loans from Mara.
"I suggest that Mara sell its land in Melbourne, Australia. Mara needs to pool its money to help these students," he said.
Sarcasm was also evident when Ibrahim pointed out how the government always emphasised on the development of human capital but reality showed how it does not safeguard the welfare of students overseas.
"(The government) talks about upholding the development of human capital, but it can't even fund students.
"They make it seem as though Malaysia is like heaven but instead the students live in hell," he said.
