The Selangor Select Committee on Competency, Accountability and Transparency (Selcat) will not be investigating the state’s water industry restructuring exercise, said its chief Hannah Yeoh.

She said this is because there is already another select committee in the state assembly that specialises in the state’s management of its water resources led by Damansara Utama assemblyperson Yeo Bee Yin.

“In the past, people, especially in BN, have always said that Selcat should not be used as a political tool to attack BN. I too do not want Selcat to be used as a tool to satisfy anyone’s ego.

“I prefer to just select issues that are related to the agencies such as public housing (PPR) [...] real issues instead of political stuff to say, ‘this menteri besar is correct, ex-menteri besar was wrong’ and things like that.

“The transaction has already taken place. Let’s just move on to governance,” Yeoh ( photo ) told reporters when asked at the state assembly lobby in Shah Alam today.

Water issue argument

Earlier. during the question-and-answer session in the assembly, former menteri besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim (Independent-Perlabuhan Klang) argued with his successor Mohd Azmin Ali over the water restructuring exercise.

While explaining the issue, Azmin took jabs at Khalid by saying that some of the difficulties faced in the exercise were inherited from the agreements that Khalid had signed.

Khalid then replied by saying Selcat should investigate the restructuring exercise and reveal its findings to the public, a challenge that Azmin welcomed.
