Two volunteers of the Coalition for Clean and Fair Elections (Bersih 2.0) were nabbed by the police last night after hoisting a Bersih 4 launch banner at a roundabout near the Petaling Jaya Civic Hall.

 

However the duo - Adrian Lim Chee En and Mohd Faddhli Abdul Jaid - were released two hours later at 12:45pm after lawyers Ambiga Sreenevasan, Michelle Yesudas, Farhanah Halim and New Sin Yew went to the Petaling Jaya police headquarters where they were held.

 

Both Adrian and Mohd Faddhli were allowed to go home without their statements taken by the police.

 

According to Ambiga, the matter was a “misunderstanding” as the police thought the two Bersih volunteers were running away when they tried to question them.

 

"We are pleased with the police for taking care of them well. It appears to be some misunderstanding about the arrest. The boys are moving back towards their car and the police thought they were running away.

 

"This is the best experience I had with the police," she said saying the police promised to inform her if they are going to call the two again for questioning.

 

Bersih chairperson Maria Chin Abdullah, who was also at the police headquarters, thanked the officers for resolving the matter amicably.

 

Bersih 4 plans to hold a launch event this Friday at the Petaling Jaya Civic Centre for its rally scheduled on Aug 29 and 30.
