Ex-DPM: Those blinded by 'yes men' won't quit
Former Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, in what appears to be a veiled jab at his ex-boss today, criticised one for being blind to one's own faults.
In his speech at the Pagoh Umno general assembly, the Umno deputy president without naming names said there are some leaders who do not see why they need to step down because they are never told they're wrong.
"Sometimes we are surrounded by supporters who say, 'It's okay sir, things are so good, don't worry sir, yes sir.'
"We don't see (what's wrong), but feel proud.
"(That person would say) 'Why should I step down? I'm okay, I have a lot of supporters, when I go to events, thousands come.'
"I'm not talking about anyone in particular, but imagine if a leader was like that," said the ousted former deputy prime minister.
Muhyiddin said this leader's supporters did not once tell him. "Sir, this is wrong."
"But this is precisely what I told the prime minister. Did I do wrong?" he asked.
'Nak cari makan'
Muhyiddin then took a shot at the 'yes men', saying they were insincere and he had an anecdote to prove it.
"I want to tell a story, about a friend. Before an event started, he said all sorts of things about the leader.
"But when the leader stood up, he went 'Congratulations Datuk Seri, I support you'.
"Before he said otherwise. Nak cari makan (need to make a living) he said," Muhyiddin told his division's delegates.
He added the longer someone is a leader, the more of these 'yes men' he will have.
He cautioned that something must change in the party before the party is changed.
