Three members of the Special Malaysian Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (Smart) and a marketing manager were charged in the Sessions Court in Sepang today with the murder of a fish pond operator.

The three Smart members - Syazwan Saat, 29, Iskandar Zulkarnain Abdul Manaf, 28, and Mohd Idris Abu Bakar, 40 - and Lim Chun Jie, 24, nodded their head after the charge was read out to them before judge Aizatul Akmal Maharani.

However, no plea was recorded.

They were jointly charged with murdering  Alias Mat Noor, 52, at Lombong Tembatan Banjir, Lingkaran Putrajaya, Cyberjaya between 10pm and 11.55pm on July 7 this year.

The charge, under Section 302 of the Penal Code, carries the death sentence upon conviction.

The court set Sept 7 for mention pending the result of the victim’s post mortem and chemist report.

The prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Ungku Alfiati Zabeidah Ungku Ismail, while lawyers Najmi Dawami represented Lim, Iskandar Zulkarnain and Mohd Idris, and Aqeeb Lizalman Nordin Zamery for Syazwan.
