Six policemen claimed trial today to corruption charges at Kuantan Special Corruption Sessions Court, said the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in a statement today.

 

The six, who were stationed at Muadzam Shah Police Station, were each slapped with two charges, namely receiving bribes worth RM8,000 and failure to report bribery offences, allegedly committed end of last year.

 

Judge Habibah Mohamed Yusof set the bail at RM5,000 and fixed Sept 3 for mention.

 

If found guilty, they could be sentenced to a maximum 20 years, a minimum fine of RM10,000 or five times the gratification amount, depending which is higher.

 

Corporal Mazlan Muhd Nor, 34 was charged under Section 16 (a)(B) of the MACC Act. He was accused of receiving  RM7,000 and RM1,000 respectively.

 

Lance Corporal Mohd Azmie Majid, 29, Constable Mohamad Firdaus Abdullah, 24 and Corporal Mohd Juhairy Jamaludin, 32, were also charged for conspiring with Mazlan.

 

The offences took place at the eateries on Dec 18 and Dec 22, 2014 respectively.

 

Lance Corporal Mohd Hazly Tomiran, 29, and Constable Mohd Hafizi Abdullah, 28, were charged under the same offences for receiving a bribe of RM7,000.

 

They were also slapped with charges under Section (1)(c)  and Section 25 (3) of the MACC Act for failure to report corruption, which took place at an eatery in Rompin on Dec 18, 2014.

 

They were accused of failure to take action against a lorry driver, who operated without permit and license to transport rubber wood.

 

Deputy public prosecutor Syafinas Shabudin represented the MACC.
