Muhyiddin Yassin, who was dropped as deputy prime minister for criticising 1MDB, today indicated he possessed more information about the company than the average person.

"What I know (about 1MDB) is from material handed to me.

"What you know about 1MDB, I would know a little more than that," he told a press conference at his residence in Kuala Lumpur this afternoon.

However, Muhyiddin did not reveal what he knew about the Finance Ministry-owned company that others did not.

Muhyiddin, together with Rural and Regional Development Minister Shafie Apdal, were dropped from the government in a cabinet reshuffle for their criticism of 1MDB.

1MDB, a brainchild of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, has to date accumulated RM41.8 billion in debt.

Muhyiddin said when he was in the government, ministers were given a fact sheet about 1MDB.

However, he said it was insufficient and he had to resort to finding information from other sources to learn about the company.

'I don't regret'

"We got a simple fact sheet that was not comprehensive enough.

"That was why I needed more information and feedback from various quarters to help me understand the issue and find a way to resolve it," he said.

Asked if he regretted criticisng 1MDB, Muhyiddin replied that he wouldn't have been a responsible minister if he had not.

"As a responsible deputy prime minister, I have a responsibility which I have to shoulder. If I don't do it, it means I have breached the people's trust and failed in discharging my duties.

"I don't regret what happened to me because what I voiced out is my right and as a long-time politician and as a Muslim, I can't lie," he said.
