Just one day can change everything in life - and same can perhaps be said of the two top leaders in the country.

On Sunday afternoon, both Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and his deputy Muhyiddin Yassin attended a former prime minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi’s Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house in Putrajaya.

Abdullah greeted both men and they were chatting while flashing smiles to the other guests. Muhyiddin left slightly earlier than Najib that day, and Najib and all other VVIPs present kept mum when asked about the 1MDB fiasco.

However Najib's brother, Nazir Abdul Razak who was also present at the open house, told reporters that he stood his ground against the suspension order on two publications of The Edge Media Group.

Later that night, Muhyiddin gave a fiery speech that went viral on YouTube, the social media, and in reports by newspaper not linked to Umno, the following day.

Muhyiddin in his speech showed his ire against Najib's handling of the IMDB fiasco, including how he was scolded by a fellow cabinet minister for reading The Edge Financial Daily reports on the matter.

Last night, Nazir hosted his Aidilfitri open house, at which both Najib and Muhyiddin attended. Here, the surroundings, the atmosphere and even the mood were completely different from the day before.

Najib and Muhyiddin arrived about the same time, around 8.30pm and were greeted graciously by Nazir as they waited for the guest-of-honour, Perak Sultan Nazrin Shah.

Both leaders were seen shaking hands and smiling to the cameras, but were not in talkative mood with each other.

Najib left the packed event barely an hour later, about 9.15pm as all other guests were mingling and talking to one another, including Muhyiddin who was seen with DAP MP Tony Pua - one of the 1MDB chief critics - as well.

Muhyiddin then spent about an hour talking with the Perak Sultan and other guests while media personnel hovered around them at the open house venue, the ballroom of the Hilton Hotel.

Other prominent guests at the event were former deputy prime minister Musa Hitam, Malacca governor Mohd Khalil Yaakob, AirAsia chief executive Tony Fernandes and other members of the current government leadership - though only a few of them from the cabinet and the Umno supreme council.

A cabinet reshuffle, very soon?

And all this took place in the midst of a cabinet reshuffle that has been widely speculated will take place “very soon”.

In fact, just after midnight, Utusan Malaysia Online published a report speculating that Najib has already met with Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah to present his cabinet reshuffle plan.

The report further said Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Minister Abdul Rahman Dahlan would replace Ahmad Shabery Cheek as the new Communications and Multimedia Minister.

The Utusan Online report even went further to say that the cabinet reshuffle could well be announced later this afternoon.

Whatever it is that will happen later today, it is no doubt there will be changes in the dynamics of Najib's cabinet.

One major cause factor for this is Muhyiddin’s vitriolic speech the closing of the Cheras Umno division delegates’ meeting on Sunday night, which shattered the myth that the current top Umno leadership sees eye-to-eye, and even stands hand-in-hand, as they did when they took their first oath in 2009.

The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) did respond to Muhyiddin’s speech, in which he also warned about Umno-BN losing the next general election.

The PMO released a statement calling on Muhyiddin to be patient , to wait for the investigations into 1MDB and to avoid making statements that might cause negative a public perception about the country's leaders, government and Umno.
