The police have recorded a statement from The Edge publisher Ho Kay Tat to facilitate investigations concerning the financial daily’s articles on 1MDB.

Inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar ( photo ) told Malaysiakini that Ho was quizzed this evening at the Bukit Aman police headquarters.

"We have recorded his statement and investigations are being carried out under Section 124 of the Penal Code," he said.

Section 124 relates to activities deemed detrimental to parliamentary democracy.

Responding to a question, Khalid said the police would not seek a remand order against Ho.

He also revealed that police would record a statement from The Edge media group owner Tong Kooi Ong ( photo ).

Asked when this would be done, Khalid replied: "Soon".

Yesterday, a police source told Malaysiakini that opposition lawmakers Rafizi Ramli and Tony Pua are also being investigated under the same section.

This followed claims that documents pertaining to 1MDB were fabricated and tampered.

Both whistleblower wesbite Sarawak Report and The Edge had published a slew of articles concerning 1MDB based on leaked emails and documents.
