The Edge Media Group has replied to the Home Ministry's show cause letter which accused the company of publishing inaccurate reports.

The Home Ministry has confirmed receiving the reply and is in the midst of studying it.

"We are analysing the response by The Edge. Let us do the needful in accordance to the procedure in place," said Hashimah Nik Jaafar, secretary of Publication and Quranic Text Division when contacted.

Following the arrest of former PetroSaudi International Ltd (PSI) staff Xavier Andre Justo by Thai authorities on June 22, Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi ( photo ) signalled that action might be taken against The Edge.

This was because Putrajaya believed Justo had sold "tampered" documents to whistleblower website Sarawak Report , which were later reproduced by publications under The Edge.

The company publishes The Edge Financial Daily and The Edge Weekly .

The show cause letter was eventually sent on July 1, with the company given a seven-day deadline to respond.

Edge's parting shot

The Edge Media Group then sought a seven-day extension because it needed to refer to some 300 articles produced in relation to 1MDB.

Yesterday, The Edge Financial Daily published an extensive article saying that PSI and Jho Low had committed fraud by siphoning US$1.83 billion from 1MDB.

In a publisher's note which accompanied the article, The Edge said:

"We have in this report, which is possibly the last on this subject, laid out all the key facts about what happened during the three- year business ties between 1MDB and PetroSaudi International - especially what happened to the US$1.83 billion of real cash invested by 1MDB.

"Our report is based on evidence corroborated by documents that include bank transfers and statements. There is no space to publish everything and, indeed, some material cannot be published.

"We will now be handing over these printed documents and the hard disk that contains them to the investigators. We will assist the investigators in any way we can to get to the bottom of what had happened.

"We have a duty to find and report the truth. Our reports on 1MDB had exposed how a group of individuals - Malaysians and foreigners - schemed a multi-billion ringgit fraud against the people of Malaysia.

"How can the work that we have done be deemed as a political conspiracy?"
