Seventh body found in Tg Karang boat mishap
A search team recovered a body at sea yesterday, raising to seven the number of people killed in a boat mishap near Tanjung Karang last Thursday.
The body of G Ravi Shankar, 25, was found along the coast at Parit 4, Sekinchan, at about 3pm, said Selangor Fire and Rescue assistant director Mohd Sani Harul.
He said Ravi Shankar’s body was found caught in some mangrove about eight nautical miles from the spot where the boat sank.
It had been sent to the Tanjong Karang Hospital and the search operation was terminated at 4pm, he said.
Ravi Shankar was in the boat that sank off the coast of Bagan Sungai Kajang when returning after the ritual of sprinkling the ashes of a dead relative in the sea.
The boat, carrying nine family members and five boatmen, had left the Kajang river fishermen's jetty at about 3pm and sprang a leak and sank as it was returning to shore two hours later.
The six other people who died have been identified as A Parianathan, 30, of Taman Aman, Sekinchan, Selangor, and A Muniamah, 49; K Logaraj, 29; M Gnaswdree, 59; G Jaya Sangari, 27, and M Kunasegaran, 57, all from Sungai Buloh, Kuala Selangor region.
Seven people were rescued by fishermen soon after the mishap, they being P Alumalai; M Sugamaran; V Nagaswari; N Sanmugan; C Sabtayan; C Sundraja and S Partiven.
