No one in the country can be above the law or be exempted from being investigated, including Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's wife, Rosmah Mansor, Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin says.

"Nobody is exempted from being investigated. The law must apply to everybody," Khairy said.

He said this after being asked to comment on a startling allegation yesterday that RM2 million had been deposited into a bank account in Rosmah's ( photo ) name.

Documents backing this expose are said to have surfaced during the investigation into claims that RM2.6 billion had been deposited into Najib's personal accounts with Ambank.

"Whether these are allegations made earlier against the prime minister, or allegations made later, all of these things need to be investigated," Khairy said.

Khairy, who is youth and sports minister, took care to avoid mentioning Rosmah, despite the question to him being about her.

Previously Defence Minister Hishamuddin Hussein had also said that nobody is above the law when asked about the 1MDB probe.

Khairy however emphasised that no one should be presumed guilty until there is convincing evidence.

"Everybody is innocent until proven guilty. There must be no assumption of guilt until there is conclusive evidence," he said.

Najib has thus far denied using 1MDB funds for personal gain, and urged the public not to believe in the allegations.

He had also accused former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad as being the mastermind behind the accusations.

Mahathir ( photo ), who is on a warpath to oust Najib, celebrates his 90th birthday today.

"I hope he is at peace with himself and is happy," Khairy said when asked to make a birthday wish for the former prime minister.
