Klang MP Charles Santiago wants Parliament to call for a special assembly to discuss the ongoing 1MDB scandal.
He said with trust within the other government institutions running low, Parliament should established themselves as independent, in line with what house speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia had wished, and is fighting for.

"I don't think Malaysians have faith anymore with the local institutions such as police and MACC.
"So therefore I think Parliament now should be convened on an emergency basis to discuss this matter and decide the next step that’s best for Malaysia.
"Pandikar, if you want to reform the Parliament, this is the best time to convene to show that Parliament is indeed independent," he declared today.
Earlier, Charles ( photo ) and several opposition leaders including ex-Selangor exco Xavier Jeyakumar, lodged a police report in Klang Police District Headquarters calling for the the WSJ claims to be investigated.
Charles was responding to BN Backbenchers Club chairman Shahrir Samad’s statement yesterday urging Malaysians to trust government agencies to investigate the claims.
Shahrir said Public Accounts Committee and the auditor-general should be trusted to deal with 1MDB issues and warned readers not to be influenced by foreign media.
'Interesting' statement
Charles said the AG, who gave and 'interesting' statement yesterday saying that they indeed had received the report about the Wall Street Journal allegations of US$700 million transferred to Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's account.
He suggested that with the AG yet to give a statement 'clearing' Najib of the allegations, Najib's deputy Muhyiddin Yassin ( photo ) should call for a special cabinet meeting.
"Normally the AG is one of the first to bend over backwards to support the government, now he is a bit silent which means that something’s happening.
"Najib should go on leave. Either he goes or Muhyiddin should call for a special cabinet meeting and ask him to take leave," he said.
Meanwhile PKR president Wan Azizah Wan Ismail called for all MPs to meet at Parliament next Tuesday to discuss the WSJ expose.
She said both opposition and BN MPs including NGO leaders should discuss and announce together a decision regarding the matter.
"I hope with this meeting, MPs from all the parties and NGO can come out with a decision that reflects the concerns of people across the country towards Najib's reliability and leadership as the prime minister of Malaysia," she said in a statement today.
