PAS will not be taking disciplinary action against its Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad for telling the party to look in the mirror, before branding DAP as chauvinists.

 

PAS Deputy President Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said Khalid's opinion, while against the official party line, is not an offence.

 

"We are monitoring developments, but we don't plan to take any action. We feel that differing opinions are not offences, but we have to correct his remarks," Tuan Ibrahim told Malaysiakini .

 

PAS President Abdul Hadi Awang had on Sunday said the Islamist party would work with any party that isn't chauvinistic.

 

While he did not specifically mention any party, DAP is often labeled as chauvinist.

however said Hadi's remarks were not aimed at DAP.

 

"When the president said chauvinist he did not mean DAP, the word DAP was not even mentioned in his statement [...] he (Hadi) did not mention party directly," he said, noting that PAS has had a long working history with DAP.

 

Khalid yesterday questioned if DAP can be labeled as chauvinists as more Malays are joining the party.

 

Instead he said that PAS was the one becoming chauvinistic as the party has lost its appeal to non-Muslims.

 

PAS and DAP have cut off ties with each other, leading DAP to announce that the Pakatan opposition pact is now dead.
