Three PAS leaders from the progressive group who were defeated in the recent party elections have been appointed to the PAS central committee for a term of two years.

They are former vice-president Salahuddin Ayub and former information chief Mahfuz Omar, while former committee member Mohd Taufek Abdul Ghani was reappointed.

This was announced by PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man during a press conference at the party headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.

Tuan Ibrahim ( photo ) said the appointment letters were sent last week and to date, there has not been any refusals to accept the appointments.

“The appointment letters were sent formally, we have also had contacts by phone and some (of those appointed) said they will wait until the letters are received before deciding, and there has been no refusals as of now,” said Tuan Ibrahim.

Malaysiakini has attempted to contact Salahuddin but has yet to receive a reply.

Mahfuz said he has yet to receive the letter and will reply when it is received.

“I have yet to receive the letter mentioned by Tuan Ibrahim, and I will rely in writing (if I receive the letter). I have not received it yet,” he said when contacted by Malaysiakini this evening.

Meanwhile, five more people were appointed to the central committee - lawyer Wan Mutalib Embong, Najihatul Salihah Ahmad, Mohamad Husin, Mukhtar Suhaili and Zainal Abidin Kidam.

Tuan Ibrahim also announced that Mustafa Ali, who was previously secretary-general, has been appointed director of elections.

The secretary-general’s post will now be held by Takiyuddin Hassan, assisted by Khairul Faizi Ahmad Kamil and Khairul Fahmi.

Mohamad Noor Mohamad will hold the secretary-general post, while Nasrudin Hassan will be the new information chief.

Meanwhile, Tuan Ibrahim said the central committee has received the resignation letter of Mazlan Aliman ( photo ) as a committee member, and he will be replaced with another candidate.

“The resignation letter (from Mazlan) has been received. There is still one vacancy to be filled,” he said.

Last week, Mazlan, who is also chairperson of the National Association of Felda Settlers’ Children (Anak), resigned with immediate effect to focus on the work of the NGO.
