Newly minted Penang PAS commissioner Muhammad Fauzi Yusoff said DAP's declaration that Pakatan Rakyat is dead is "confusing".

 

Fauzi said that it would be more "logical and appropriate" for DAP to declare the party quit Pakatan as the decision was conveyed by its secretary-general Lim Guan Eng.

 

Fauzi said Pakatan comprise of three parties - DAP, PAS and PKR - where no one is supposed to lead the other two.

 

"This declaration is confusing as usually, such decisions (concerning Pakatan) are made after discussions and mutual agreement between the three parties," Fauzi said in a statement.

 

"It is strange that DAP issued the declaration - without discussion with others - as if it is the head of Pakatan," Fauzi added.

 

Fauzi, who replaces former Penang PAS commisioner Mohamed Sabu, was referring to Lim's ( photo ) dramatic declaration yesterday that Pakatan had ceased to exist.

 

The Penang chief minister made the statement following a decision by DAP's central executive committee to accept the PAS muktamar's decision to sever ties with the party.

 

Ties cut

PAS delegates endorsed the proposal by the ulama council to sever ties with DAP after the party cut ties with PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang.

 

DAP did so as it rejected Hadi's move to table a private members bill on hudud in Parliament without consulting the Pakatan leadership council.

 

PKR is caught between the two warring allies and has yet to issue an official statement regarding the matter.

 

Pending PKR announcing its position on Pakatan, PAS will continue working with PKR in Penang, Fauzi ( photo ) said.

 

He said PAS has no problem working with PKR for the sake of Penangites.

 

"As for the decision to sever ties with DAP, it was a proposal of the ulama council at the party's muktamar," Fauzi said.

 

"We must be patient and obey the decision," he added.
