Mazlan Aliman, the only member of the PAS progressives faction who won a post in the party polls, resigned from the central committee today.

 

At a press conference at PAS headquarters, Mazlan said he had done so in order to focus on his work with the NGO Anak, a Felda watchdog.

 

However, he still remains a PAS member.

 

Mazlan admitted that his resignation was caused partly by the whitewash victory of the ulama faction against his group at the muktamar two weeks ago.

"The losses by my friends have wounded my deeply. This is a black mark in my 30 year PAS career," he further told reporters at Kuala Lumpur today.

Mazlan said he will now focus on the NGOs that he is involved in, including Anak, Orang Asal Welfare Body (Batin), Rubber Tappers’ Child Welfare Society (Petah), Organisation of Traditional Villages and Heritage Malaysia (Anak Warisan).

Mazlan denied he will be involved in NGO Pasma's plan to be a political party as a PAS alternative, saying he will stay a PAS ordinary member.

In his resignation letter to PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang today, he stated that he would contribute striving for truth and justice with the Islamic party.

 

"Also, in the NGOs I’m linked with, I intend to install a more effective mechanism to address critical issues such as Felda Global Ventures, GST, cost of living and others," he said.
