Mazlan Aliman, currently the sole PAS leader from the progressive faction in PAS, will only decide on Monday whether he will resign from his post or otherwise.

“Wait until the 15th (Monday). I will state my decision in Kuala Lumpur on this date and I will also inform the media about it,” he told Malaysiakini .

When asked why he had chosen that particular date, which is coincidentally two days after Persatuan Ummah Sejahtera Malaysia's (PasMa) convention, Mazlan denied that he had any connection with the NGO.

“I have other reasons. Don’t associate me with PasMa," he said.

Mazlan, after winning a central working committee member post with 539 votes, had said that he was considering whether to resign from his post.

Party crisis has affected him deeply

The National Felda Settlers’ Children’s Association (Anak) president said that the party crisis has affected him deeply.

"What more, my comrades who have sacrificed so much for decades were all defeated in the election. I am saddened by this situation and it is affecting my emotions," Mazlan had said.

The recent PAS muktamar saw the progressive faction completely wiped out, save for Mazlan.

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang ( photo ) who led the conservative faction also trounced his pro-Pakatan challenger Ahmad Awang.

Many say that the results of the party’s election were due to the leaders not showcasing their support for Hadi on various issues and were seen to be more close to the DAP, instead.
