PAS must stick to its decision to sever ties with DAP as a U-turn would be detrimental to the party, claimed PAS information chief Mahfuz Omar.

He said a U-turn would be perceived badly by the Muslims and would further impact the support enjoyed by the Islamic party.

"If PAS were to U-turn, they will say PAS only wants government position, this is something need to be considered," Mahfuz, who is also Pokok Sena MP, told reporters at the Parliament lobby today.

He said this despite PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang's claim that the Ulama wing's motion, which to cut ties with DAP, has yet to be finalised.

PAS central committee and syura council will meet to make a final decision on the motion.

Syura council may back the motion

On this note, Mahfuz who lost the contest for vice-president's post, said most of the ulama leaders were members of the syura council, alluding to the notion that the syura council may fully back the motion.

Moreover, the Dewan Ulama's motion had listed out nine reasons for breaking ties with DAP, all of which backed by Islamic reasons.

Meanwhile, Mahfuz said PKR now have to choose between DAP and PAS in the Selangor state administration.

"This is up to PKR, if PKR opted to stand with PAS, then DAP need to get out.

"If PKR wants DAP, then PAS need to retreat," he said.

A break-up in DAP and PAS in Selangor may see the fall of Selangor Pakatan government, where PAS and DAP both holds 15 state seats each, while PKR has only 13 seats out of 56 state seats.
