Nik Abduh drowns Suhaizan in ulama wave
PAS Youth has elected Nik Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz as its new leader.
PAS Youth has elected Nik Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz as its new leader.
Nik Abduh secured 62 percent of the votes cast, securing 429 votes, while the incumbent Suhaizan Kaiat secured 262 votes.
His victory was widely expected as there is an groundswell of support for the PAS faction aligned to incumbent president Abdul Hadi Awang.
Nik Abduh isn't the only one celebrating, as the ulama faction also completely annihilated the pro-Pakatan faction in today's contest.
Both Khalil Abdul Hadi and Khairil Nizam Khiruddin retained their posts as deputy and vice-chief respectively and all 12 youth committee members are now from the ulama camp.
At a press conference immediately after his victory, Nik Abduh ( photo ) said his victory was a sign of PAS Youth's support for an ulama leadership.
Not because of list
However, he declined to say if the wave will overwhelm the pro-Pakatan faction in the central party polls tomorrow.
"I hope the delegates at the main muktamar tomorrow will make the right choice for PAS," he said.
Nik Abduh also rejected the notion that the ulama victory today was because of the ' chai ' (list) that was released today.
"I have never said in my statement that I had a group [...] everyone in PAS Youth are my friends," he added.
He also boldly dismissed the idea that there was a pro-ulama faction or a 'progressives' camp in the party.
