PAS should strive to keep Pakatan Rakyat together unless it wants to experience overwhelming defeat in the general election, warned incumbent Youth chief Suhaizan Kaiat.

"There are those among us who believe the best way is to for us to be on our own.

"But did we forget the results we achieved when we were alone before?

"Did we forget when PAS only won one parliamentary seat in the 1986 GE despite contesting 98 seats?

"Do we want to repeat the moment when we were weak and oppressed?" he asked in his speech at the PAS Youth Muktamar in Shah Alam today.

As such, he said the Islamist party's Youth wing should fight against dissenting voices that would split the opposition pact.

Suhaizan believes the mounting calls for PAS to quit Pakatan may be due to the lower number of parliamentary seats the Islamist party won compared to DAP.

"But should that be the reason for us to end our relationship?

"Didn't we win the most state seats in eight out of 13 states? Which means if Pakatan had won equally in all 13 states, the menteri besar and chief ministers would surely be from PAS," he added.

He said the people have high hopes for Pakatan, and as such any act to betray this trust would result in voters punishing PAS.
