PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail will accept the proposal by Pakatan Rakyat allies for her to become parliamentary opposition leader.

Wan Azizah - who is PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim's wife - said she is humbled by the request.

"By convention, it should be someone form DAP as they hold the most seats in Pakatan. But since they have allowed me, I will accept," she said.

Wan Azizah is expected to be sworn in Parliament on Monday, when the Parliament session for this year resumes.

She said an official announcement would be made after she takes her oath as the MP for permatang Pauh on May 18.

The move comes after Wan Azizah won the seat in the May 7 by-election.

The seat was previously held by Anwar, who had to vacate it after he failed to obtain a pardon for his sodomy conviction by the Federal Court on Feb 10.

Wan Azizah was also opposition leader from 2004 to 2008, before making way for Anwar.

She spoke to reporters today on the sidelines of Anwar's testimony in his defamation suit against Senator S Nallakaruppan in the High Court in Kuala Lumpur.

DAP has 37 Parliament seats, PKR 29 and PAS 21 in the 222 seat Dewan Rakyat.

DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang has already declared his support for Wan Azizah, who is widely known as Kak Wan, as the parliamentary opposition leader.

"Wan Azizah's solid and impressive win in the Permatang Pauh by-election paves the way for her to be re-elected as the parliamentary opposition leader," said Lim, the MP for gelang Patah.

PAS president, Abdul Hadi Awang, who had previously opposed Wan Azizah as Selangor menteri besar, following her win in the Kajang by-election last year, also supported Anwar's wife as opposition leader.

Pokok Sena MP and PAS information chief Mahfuz Omar said the party's central committee has also agreed with this.

Anwar's children question Najib's PR firm

Meanwhile, Anwar's daughter Nurul Nuha Anwar spoke to reporters outside court about a recent expose by Sarawak Report on Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak hiring public relations firms to systematically vilify Anwar, internationally and locally, since 2010.

“What's more startling and troubling is the fact that public funds were used,  to the tune of millions of ringgit via the Prime Minister's Office, to hire PR firms to orchestrate the unscrupulous attact to denigrate Anwar.

“There is further evidence pointing to the usage of government machinery and the local media in coordination with the PR team to further tarnish and ruin our father's reputation,” she said.

The siblings, Nurul Nuha ( right ) added are appalled and outraged by the damning evidence and it only proved their conviction that there has always been a conspiracy at the highest level to attack and bring their father down.

She added that with the 100th day of their father in prison approaching as a political prisoner, they want on Najib to end his senseless and despicable gutter politics.

“This kind of politics has no place in Malaysia. We insist that an immediate investigation be made by the police and the MACC to ascertain abuse of power and misappropriation of public funds,” Nurul Nuha added.

The family, she said, were firm in their belief that Anwar is innocent and they would continue with their struggle to free Anwar from incarceration.

“A solidarity event will be held in front of the Sungai Buloh Prison on our father's 100th day of imprisonment, on Wednesday May 20.

“We call everyone to join us, in unison against the unjust incarceration,” Nurul Nuha said.

The event is to be held from 9pm until midnight.
