The Permatang Pauh by-election may see phantom voters making their appearance tomorrow, claims PKR secretary-general Rafizi Ramli.

Umno workers have gone house-to-house to distribute voting slips listing the names of voters registered at the particular houses, Rafizi told a press conference today.

"After the house owners obtained these slips, we received complaints from two owners that they did not know who the other names on the slips were," he said.

After he visited a unit at Permata Apartment, he was told by the owner that a person called "Sakinah Ahmad" was registered there as well.

"But the owner told me that she has lived there since the apartment was completed 14 years ago and it was never rented to anyone else.

"The owner said she did not know who this Sakinah is and asked how was Sakinah then registered as a voter at her apartment unit," said Rafizi.

Rafizi said checks conducted by Bayan Baru MP Sim Tze Tzin showed that "Sakinah" is registered as a voter in Jelutong, Penang.

The owner of another apartment unit claimed that a "Nur Fadilawaty Hanafi", as well as five other unknown voters, were registered at his home address.

"Just like the other owner, he has lived there for 14 years and had never rented out the unit to anyone," Rafizi said.

The PKR vice-president added there was a high possibility that the names were registered using fake MyKad.

He pointed out that this was not the first time that such a thing had occurred. The Pandan MP had, back during the 2013 general election, lodged six police reports on claims of phantom voters registered in his constituency.

Although Rafizi admitted that no action was taken based on the police reports, he said it was simply not right to let such a thing re-occur.

"It has to be highlighted all over again. If BN continues to do this, the people need to know that dirty tactics will reign supremely tomorrow," he said.

Rafizi is certain the EC will not act

Admitting that he was certain the Election Commission (EC) would not do anything about this, while the BN would deny such claims, Rafizi therefore appealed to "peace-loving voters" to come out in full force tomorrow.

"As for anyone who receives such slips, please contact our headquarters so that we can collect and submit the names to the authorities," he said.

Rafizi added that the details of both Sakinah and Nur Fadilawaty would be distributed to the PKR by-election helpers who would try to catch them at their voting centre tomorrow .

Both names stated on the slips will be voting at SMK Permatang Rawa.

"Based on our experience, they will run away from us and won't vote.

"If they don't run away, we will take them to the police station. We just want to make a point, for we are not expecting the authorities to take the action," Rafizi added.
