Six Royal Malaysian Navy officers and personnel in Lumut who were earlier detained in connection with a corruption case while on official duty have been transferred to other departments and locations.

Navy chief Admiral Abdul Aziz Jaafar said the six would also be monitored closely as part of the ongoing investigation while closely liaising with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

"We are in good terms with the MACC and I believe that everyone is innocent until proven guilty before the court," he told reporters after attending the Navy's Rank Promotion Ceremony at KD Gombak in Kuala Lumpur today.

A total of 34 Navy officers, including eight officers in the Klang Valley were promoted.

This brings to 2,213 officers promoted since April 2008, thus far. Meanwhile, Abdul Aziz said the Navy would further tighten measures to prevent inappropriate behaviour among its personnel.

"We encourage and welcome the public, Navy officers and personnel to report or provide any form of input on identifiable inappropriate behaviour, regardless of corruption, misappropriation of funds or abuse of power directly to me via Twitter account or office number," he added.

Recently, it was reported that 11 people, including six Navy officers and personnel in Lumut who were detained in connection with a corruption case were released.
