Abdullah Abu Bakar has been summoned to the Petaling Jaya district police headquarters for questioning over the cross protest in Taman Medan.

However, the brother of inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar is unperturbed.

Abdullah ( left ), who is the Taman Lindungan Jaya Umno branch chairperson, said he would be going to the police headquarters this evening and would not be bringing a lawyer along.

"Why bring a lawyer, this is a small matter," he told Malaysiakini .

Abdullah said the police contacted him and several others, who were at the protest, this morning.

"They called me this morning and asked me to come. But I don't know who else has been called," he added.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak said the police would investigate Sunday's protest and action could be taken under the Sedition Act 1948.

Meanwhile, Khalid has vowed that he would not interfere if his brother is probed.

Previously, Abdullah, who was reported to be leading the protest, claimed that he was there to mediate between the residents and church officials.

The protest was held by some 50 Muslim residents, who demanded a church to lower a cross placed on its building and the pastor agreed.

The incident drew widespread condemnation, including from BN politicians.

Initially, Khalid had described the protest as a flash mob and ruled out that there were seditious elements involved.

On the same day, Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the protesters had breached the Sedition Act.

Apart from calling for a probe, the prime minister also ticked off the protesters for causing unease in a multiracial society.

Former Petaling Jaya Selatan Umno Wanita chief Munaliza Hamzah, who was also present at the protest, said it cannot be considered seditious because nobody died or were injured in the incident.

Munaliza was also the former BN candidate for the Taman Medan state seat in the last general election.
