Selangor PAS have denied a news report that they will team up with Umno and five renegade PKR assemblypersons to form a new state government.

 

SuaraTV on Friday quoted a source as saying that PAS President Abdul Hadi Awang had met with former Selangor menteri besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim overseas, to discuss the plot.

 

According to the report, PAS would team up with Umno, supported by five PKR reps who will jump ship and allow Khalid to command a simple majority in the state assembly.

 

Selangor PAS commisioner Iskandar Ab Samad dismissed the report as an attempt to soil Hadi's name in the lead up to party polls in June.

 

"It is quite likely that the report was meant to soil the PAS president's party in the lead up to the Muktamar in June.

 

"However I believe party members can differentiate between fake news and real news," Iskandar said in a statement today.

 

"Selangor PAS is able to cooperate well with (menteri besar) Azmin Ali ( left ), so there is no reason to change the menteri besar. Furthermore, Selangor PAS will never work together with Umno," Iskandar added.

 

Hadi himself denied the report during a press conference yesterday.

 

The PAS president had been a strong supporter of Khalid during the Selangor menteri besar crisis last year, and vehemently opposed PKR's replacement candidate Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

 

Azmin, who is also PKR deputy president, was eventually appointed menteri besar as a compromise.
