PAS is all prepared to face the Rompin parlimentary by-election, with the launch of the party machinery at Felda Keratong 4, Muadzam Shah, yesterday.  

Its central committee member, Nasrudin Hassan Tantawi when launching the machinery said it would be a challenging task for PAS to beat the 15,114 majority votes secured by BN in the last general election.  

"I am wondering what to say to motivate our machinery. The number (of the majority) is not small. But we must believe that we can win, if we work hard.

"By winning the by-election, with God's will, would be sending a message to the government that the people reject the abuse of power, although if we win, it would not change our political landscape nor the government," he said.

Nasrudin, who is also the Temerloh member of parliament, stressed that the party machinery must be willing to promote any person that was selected as the candidate, which would be announced on April 20.  

He also advised the party machinery not to provoke the people of Rompin, instead use the proper channel to brief them on issues such as the newly-imposed goods and services tax (GST), Felda-related issues and the Sedition Act.

The Rompin by-election, scheduled for May 5, is being held following the death of incumbent Jamaluddin Jarjis on April 4, in a helicopter crash in Semenyih, Selangor.

At the 13th general election in May 2013, Jamaluddin, who was also the 1Malaysia People's Housing (PR1MA) chairperson, retained the seat he had held for 23 years, when he defeated former PAS women's wing chief Nuridah Mohd Salleh with a majority of 15,114 votes.
