Still waiting to see Dr M in purple jumpsuit Any investigation against former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad over his recent blog posts is likely to be done "discreetly" to give the country’s longest-serving PM "due respect".

Deputy Home Minister Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said this today when asked on the outcome of any police investigation against the former PM.

This followed police reports filed against Mahathir over this blog posts criticising Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

Wan Junaidi said police are obliged to investigate all reports, but may do so on the quiet in this matter, without much fanfare.

"You must remember that Mahathir was a very long-serving prime minister. We must give all give the due respect.

"Even if there is any investigation carried out, based on the report taken, I am sure it will be done discreetly to give the due respect.

"But of course, the police will do what is necessary. Nobody is exempted, nobody is above the law," Wan Junaidi (left) told reporters at the Parliament building.

His statement comes after Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar said police will go through all the reports against Mahathir to first determine if there is a valid case.

Khalid said this despite earlier saying that Mahathir’s blog postings, which also involve the management of 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB), are not seditious .

PKR-linked NGO Solidariti Anak Muda Malaysia last week lodged police reports nationwide against Mahathir for breaching the Sedition Act.

SAMM took particularly issue with Mahathir’s posting asking who had ordered the murder of Mongolian woman Altantuya Shaariibuu in 2006

Action was taken under the Sedition Act against SAMM founder Badrul Hisham Shahrin, better known as Chegubard for a book he wrote on the murder of Altantuya.

Najib (right) was linked to the grissly case when police commandos assigned as his bodyguards were charged for the murder, while his associate Abdul Razak Baginda was charged with abetment.

The policemen are facing the hangman’s noose while Abdul Razak Baginda was acquitted.

Najib has vehemently denied involvement in the matter and said he took a religious oath in 2008, that he does not know Altantuya. He was deputy prime minister at the time.

Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, who was prime minister from 2003 to 2009, said police then briefed him of the outcome of the investigation and cleared Najib of any involvement.
