No point in replying to Dr M, says Hishammuddin
There is no point in rebutting every allegation raised by Dr Mahathir Mohamad as he keeps moving the goalposts, a cabinet minister said today.
"If we have to respond to every allegation, I'll be here everyday 24/7... the goalposts keeps changing," Defence Minister Hishammuddin Hussein said.
"What is the end game? What is the purpose (of the allegations)?" he asked.
Hishammuddin, who is also an Umno vice-president, told the former prime minister to prove his allegations, including that Umno leaders are only loyal for money.
"Prove it, and leave it to the agencies (to investigate)," he said.
In a series of videos published by blogger Din Turtle, Mahathir ( right ) had claimed that Umno leaders were loyal to the current leadership because they received contracts and other kickbacks.
Hishammuddin said Mahathir’s attacks have become personal, and should stop.
“If we continue like this who is going to lead the country?” he asked.
However, he said Umno can still overcome the criticism coming from the former premier.
“What is happening now can be overcome, as long as we look after the interests of the party, the nation, and unity among Malaysians,” he said.
The Umno veep added that it is the party who will decide who is their leader, not Mahathir.
“The one who will decide will be the Umno members. One man asking (Najib to quit) is not going to make a difference,” Hishammuddin said.
