MCA president Liow Tiong Lai has flayed DAP for allowing PAS to take the Private Member’s Bill on hudud to Parliament today.

“Besides PAS, DAP has to be responsible for the bill. DAP has been running away from responsibility for a long time, deceiving the people for a long time.

“DAP continues to deceive the people in the country, it continues to play politics with hudud,” Liow said in slamming DAP at a press conference at the Dewan Rakyat lobby today.

He also declared that MCA has been against hudud since day one and had  also raised its objections in the BN leadership meeting.

“We have discussed and raised our stand clearly, especially MCA, during the BN meeting, that we are against hudud because it violates human rights and is not according to the Federal Constitution,” Liow said.

While not being able to speak for the government coalition as a whole, he reiterated that under his leadership, all the MPs from MCA were against the bill.

“I will ensure MCA will not support the hudud bill. I have full control of the MCA MPs and a lot of BN component parties have also come out against the bill.

“BN will decide things in consensus. The prime minister will come out with a statement explaining this,” Liow, who is the MP for Bentong, added.

Liow also refused to state if MCA would quit BN if Umno voted in favour of hudud law implemnatation.

"That question doesn't arise as you know the bill comes from PAS," he countered.

'Resignation letters'

Commenting on the ' resignation letter ' that DAP placed on his table in Parliament yesterday, Liow said it was a manipulative tactic done by the opposition party to paint MCA in bad light.

“This is a DAP manipulation. MCA’s position on this matter has always been consistent and we never have changed our position on hudud. It has been very clear,” he said.

DAP’s Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng ( left ) had prepared a 'resignation letter' for Liow and other MCA MPs urging them to resign for allegedly deceiving the public about Putrajaya’s stand on the hudud law implementation.

This was seen as tit-for-tat move that followed MCA Youth's demand for DAP lawmakers to resign for what they claimed was the misleading of the  public into believing that PAS would drop its theocratic state ambitions.
