The issue of deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yasin to succeed PM Najib Razak "does not arise", said Umno Youth Chief Khairy Jamaluddin today.

This is after former prime minister Mahathir Mohamad had named Muhyiddin as "the most eligible candidate" to take over as PM, after Mahathir urged Najib to resign.

"For us in Umno, it is clear. We give undivided support to Najib, the party president.

"The question of who is the suitable person to replace him does not arise," Khairy told reporters at Kuala Langat, Selangor.

Although what Mahathir had raised must be answered, Umno's support for Najib remains undivided, he said.

"This is not a question of support or loyalty, this is a question of addressing the issues," he added.

Khairy had earlier urged a response to Mahathir's scathing blog entry against Najib last week.

Khairy said this after Mahathir called for Najib's resignation and said that according to procedure, the next in line for the post would be Muhyiddin.

The Umno veteran however refused to endorse Muhyiddin, saying he has "lost faith" after two people he had handpicked as PM did not turn out as he hoped they would.

On a separate matter, Khairy said Umno Youth will be prepared for the Rompin by-election, triggered the death of its MP Jamaluddin Jarjis in a helicopter crash yesterday.

"It just was happened yesterday, so we will complete the burial today first, and after that, I will call Pahang and Rompin Umno Youth for a meeting for us to do early preparation," he said.

He also said Umno Youth is also ready for the Permatang Pauh by-election.

"Be it in Permatang Pauh or Rompin (by election), I am of confidence that we are ready for it," he added.

Jamaluddin (left) , once Malaysia’s envoy to the United States and cabinet minister, was among Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak’s closest advisors.

He was traveling to Kuala Lumpur from Najib’s daughter’s wedding reception in Pekan, Pahang along with PM’s chief of staff Azlin Alias. The crash killed all six on board.

The Permatang Pauh seat was declared vacant last Wednesday after the High Court was told the the royal pardon application submitted by Anwar’s family was dismissed, but PKR disputes this.
