Perkasa president Ibrahim Ali is on the same page with Dr Mahathir Mohamad with regard to the murder of Altantuya Shaariibuu .

He clarified that the former premier was asking for an investigation and not making an accusation.

"This is common sense and everybody would support (the call). What Mahathir said is right," he told reporters in Kuala Lumpur.

Ibrahim also agreed with the former premier that BN would lose in the next general election if Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak remained at the helm.

"My assumption is based on the GE13 result where the majority of non-Malays rejected BN and it was the Malays and bumiputera from Sabah and Sarawak who fortified BN in the last 12 general elections.

"So my view is no different from Mahathir's," he added.

However, Mahathir in his blog post this morning claimed that Najib's inability to answer the slew of allegations against him has led all races including the Malays and those in East Malaysia to lose trust in him.

The former premier also wanted the police to investigate the claims made by former police commando Sirul Azhar Umar that he was merely following orders.

Sirul and another former police commando Azilah Hadri were sentenced to death for the murder of Altantuya.

Sirul fled to Australia prior to the verdict being delivered in January and the law there forbids those facing the death sentence from being deported.

Ibrahim added that Najib seems to be even worse than his predecessor Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

He spoke to reporters after Perkasa hosted a discussion on 1MDB at Kampung Baru attended by about 45 people.

Call RCI for 1MDB

Echoing a call earlier made by DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang, Ibrahim said a Royal Commission of Inquiry should be formed on 1MDB to ensure greater transparency.

The Auditor-General’s Department is currently conducting an audit on 1MDB following Najib’s instructions, but the terms of reference for the audit has yet to be made public.

Veteran newsman Kadir Jasin (left) likened the 1MDB issue to the Bank Bumiputera scandal of the 1980s, where grand corruption was unravelled through an RCI.

Ibrahim said an RCI on 1MDB will better serve the purpose of safeguarding national assets and to clear Najib and his wife Rosmah Mansor of any wrongdoing linked to the Finance Ministry firm.

"Only through an RCI with an unlimited mandate can Najib and Rosmah’s good name be cleared of any aspersions cast by irresponsible media in relations to 1MDB," he said.

Rosmah is linked to 1MDB through businessman Jho Low, who is close friends with her son Riza Aziz, and advised 1MDB on various dealings.

The Low connection was also raised in Mahathir's blog posting today.

Najib is 1MDB board of advisor’s chairperson and finance minister.
