A stand-off is taking place within the Kelana Jaya Customs Complex as activists led by Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) demand answers on the goods and services tax (GST).

More than 100 activists barged into the complex at 11.15am armed with 106 questions regarding the new tax policy.

They have demanded for GST to be scrapped or postponed if the questions cannot be answered.

They were stopped just outside the complex's GST information kiosk by police personnel, who were later joined by members of the Light Strike Force (LSF) from at least three police districts and the Federal Reserve Unit (FRU).

In discussions between the police and PSM secretary-general S Arulchelvan, the police promised to bring the Customs director-general to discuss with the group, but on the condition that the crowd waits outside the complex gate.

PSM declined the suggestion, but both then agreed to a compromise where the crowd would wait at a nearby corridor within the complex.

The situation is now calm, despite initial scuffles when the group was stopped outside the information kiosk.

Several members of the Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) were also seen, but were not wearing anti-riot gear and appear to be taking pictures of the crowd.

The tension cooled after Badrul Hisham urged the crowd to sit down, while Arutchelvan and Petaling Jaya OCPD Azmi Abu Kassim held discussioins.

The police promised the bring Kuala Lumpur Customs chief Abdul Gani Othman to the group and answer the questions, but on the condition that the group waits outside the complex.

This was rejected as a ploy to get the group to leave, but both then agreed to a compromise where the group would wait at a nearby corridor within the complex instead.
