Gobind wants Pakatan to act against PAS

A DAP leader has called on Pakatan Rakyat to act against PAS for defying the coalition’s common platform, after its hudud enactment was passed in Kelantan today.
“Pakatan Rakyat must move quickly to restore confidence in the people of Malaysia by taking action against PAS."
A DAP leader has called on Pakatan Rakyat to act against PAS for defying the coalition’s common platform, after its hudud enactment was passed in Kelantan today.
“Pakatan Rakyat must move quickly to restore confidence in the people of Malaysia by taking action against PAS.
“This must be done in order to reassure people that it is serious about its common policy framework, its promises to the people and the future of Malaysia.
”If it doesn't, then Pakatan Rakyat can expect a most serious backlash from its supporters in the next general election,” said Puchong MP Gobind Singh Deo (right) in a statement today.
He said in his view, the coalition could no longer maintain ties with PAS “as a matter of principle” as the move today showed the Islamic party had “shown scant, if not little or no regard” for the opposition coalition’s common policy framework.
Gobind said PAS, in pushing for the bill despite all round objection from DAP and PKR, proved they could not be trusted.
"PAS has openly demonstrated that they cannot be trusted.
"They have betrayed not only the DAP but more importantly, all those who voted for PAS believing in the common policy framework of Pakatan Rakyat," said the Puchong MP.
'PAS misled council'
PKR's top seven leaders also issued a joint statement today condemning PAS for going against the Pakatan consensus, and for misleading the leadership council meeting on February 8.
Kelantan government's representative Nik Amar Abdullah had told the council during the meeting that only four amendments were being sought, but when the details were revealed a month later what was to be tabled turned out to be an entirely new bill, said the seven leaders led by president Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.
Gobind said DAP will meet next Monday to discuss its future with PAS and he vowed to air his view that working with PAS was no longer tenable in light of the developments at the Kelantan sitting.
"I will certainly put forward my views on the matter which is that we cannot any more work with PAS.
"We have in the DAP always maintained our firm objections to the implementation of hudud in Malaysia.
"We joined forces with PAS and PKR in Pakatan Rakyat relying on the common policy framework which clearly did not include hudud.
"It is therefore now untenable for us to remain in any relationship with PAS after their tabling of this bill in Kelantan and their clear intention to pursue it further in Parliament."
