Kelantan hudud bill passed unanimously

The Kelantan state legislative assembly has unanimously passed a Bill to amend the Kelantan Syariah Criminal Code II 1993.

Out of the 45 state assemblypersons, 44 were present. The Chempaka seat remains vacant following the death of PAS spiritual leader Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat. The by-election will be held on Sunday.
The assemblypersons expressed their support for the amendments after debates from three PAS assemblypersons, Tawang assemblyperson Hassan Mohamood, Melor assemblyperson Dr Md Yusnan Yusof, Salor assemblyperson Husam Musa and Umno’s Kok Lanas assemblyperson Md Alwi Che Ahmad.
After the bill was passed today, amendments to the federal constitution have to be made to enable hudud to be implemented in the state.
Kelantan Deputy Menteri Besar Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah (left), when met later, said the bill will be brought to Parliament “as soon as possible”.
Nevertheless, the state government had yet to decide on the representative who will be presenting the bill in Parliament.
“We will bring it to Parliament as soon as possible and if possible, within this month before the current parliamentary session ends.
“We will see who will present the bill in Parliament.
“We just need a simple majority. As I had always mentioned, all Muslim representatives should realise his or her religious obligation.
“InsyaAllah, we will achieve the numbers and maybe even more,” he said.
Although Amar remains optimistic, it seemed a tall order for PAS to achieve the numbers needed as DAP and PKR are most likely to instruct their Muslim representatives to vote against hudud.
PKR secretary-general Rafizi Ramli had confirmed that the party had instructed its sole rep in the Kelantan state legislative assembly, Roslan Puteh, not to take part in the debate and voting session today.
