Carpet dealer Deepak Jaikishan has obtained an injunction to stop the distribution of a book by former Bank Rakyat chairperson Sabbarudin Chik.

Deepak added that he will also be filing a RM1.1 billion suit against Sabbarudin and journalist Shahbudin Husin who helped author the book.

The book, titled "Exposing the Deepak and Bank Rakyat scandal", alleged Deepak had used his political connections to force Bank Rakyat to settle his RM32 million loan without interest.

It alleged that Minister of Domestic Trade, Cooperative and Consumerism Hassan Malek demanded Bank Rakyat to accept the settlement and when Sabbarudin refused, his tenure as Bank Rakyat chairperson was not renewed.

He had said that the deal would have cost Bank Rakyat RM14 million in interest and late payment charges.

Deepak had applied for an ex-parte injunction on March 6 and it was granted by High Court Judge Vazeer Alam Mydin Meera.

The injunction names Sabbaruddin and Shahbudin Husin who helped author the book.

Shadowy figure

According to the injunction, the duo as well as their intermediaries are not allowed to print, publish, distribute or sell the book which may contain words defamatory to Deepak.

Deepak said the injunction was served on Sabbaruddin and Shahbudin on Wednesday.

The businessman is a mysterious figure in the corridors of power.

He had in 2012 launched a broadside against the Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and wife Rosmah Mansor after a land deal with an Umno leader went sour.

Deepak had claimed he paid an undisclosed sum to Najib's family to come in as a party in the land deal.

He also revealed jewellery invoices which he said were purchases for the prime minister's wife.

He had also admitted to being involved in the Altantuya Shaariibuu murder case where he had made the late private investigator P Balasubramaniam retract his statutory declaration linking Najib to the deceased.

However, Deepak disappeared from public view after the Defence Ministry's Lembaga Tabung Angkatan Tentera’s (LTAT) purchased his company.
