Dewan Rakyat Speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia is reconsidering allowing Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim to attend the ongoing sitting of Parliament, PKR deputy president Azmin Ali said today.

"He said he will look into it," Azmin (right) said after he relayed a request to Pandikar to reconsider his decision during a courtesy visit he paid, as the Selangor menteri besar, to Pandikar in his office at Parliament House.

"I expressed my disappointment with his decision not to allow Anwar to attend Parliament, even though the speaker is the one who recognised that Anwar is still a MP and opposition leader," Azmin told a press conference after his courtesy call.

Anwar is currently serving a five-year jail sentence at the Sungai Buloh Prison after being convicted of sodomising his former aide Saiful Bukhari Azlan.

'At the right time'

Anwar has been refused permission to attend Parliament by both Pandikar and the Prisons Department.

"The Parliament must acknowledge the role of an opposition leader," Azmin said.

However, Pandikar did not give a definitive timeline as to when a decision will be made.

"He said he would make a decision at the right time," Azmin said.
