PAS vice president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man in a statement today said the party denounced any form of attack against any politician.
Dzulkefly was assaulted by an unknown assailant on March 5 and suffered a split lip and bruises on his forehead.
Dr Hatta Ramli had his four-wheel drive torched by an unknown person last month.
“We urge the police to conduct a thorough investigation in relation to the attack made against Dzulkefly and (PAS election director) Hatta.
“We also urge those who have evidence (on the attacks) to come forward to assist the police,” he said, adding that the step was important to stop the “wild speculation” circulating on social media.
Assumptions will only make matters worse and will open the space to those with bad intentions to take the opportunity to gain political brownie points, he said.
The incidents also reminded him of a tragedy which had occurred in the 1960s where PAS parliamentarian Abdul Samad Gul Ahmad Mianji was hacked to death.
“In today’s political era, such incidents should not happen. This shows how there is a lack of safety regarding politicians," he said.
Tuan Ibrahim (left) added that security monitoring at the homes of politicians must be increased as both incidents had occurred at the respective politicians’ houses.
PAS will increase security through its Unit Amal and the party’s safety unit, especially with the upcoming party elections, he said.
“We know that there are people who wish to sow dissatisfaction between party factions during the party elections.
“As such, we recommend PAS members and leaders not to give way to such groups.
“Campaign in a healthy manner and use democratic means. Respect your opponents without having to resort to something that is unacceptable," he said.
Since the attacks on Dzulkefly and Hatta, the ulama faction has mostly kept mum, with party president Abdul Hadi Awang having reserved his comments on the matter.
