Nik Aziz would have done better, DAP tells Amar

DAP has invoked the name of the late Kelantan menteri besar Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat as it becomes increasingly frustrated at present Deputy MB Mohd Amar Abdullah’s insistence to push through with the implementation of hudud in the state.

DAP’s supremo Lim Kit Siang said Mohd Amar is pushing through with plans to amend the Syariah Criminal Code (II) Enactment 1993 even though the Pakatan Rakyat leadership council had decided to defer the matter or further discussions.
“It is up to Mohd Amar (right) if he wants to renege on this commitment made by him and PAS leaders at the Pakatan leadership council on Feb 8, but one thing I am sure is that Nik Aziz would never go back on his undertaking, as to Nik Aziz, his word was his bond.
“In fact I am confident that Nik Aziz, if he were alive, would see the big picture on the need to protect and enhance the unity, solidarity and effectiveness of Pakatan Rakyat to replace Umno/BN in Putrajaya in the 14th general election.
“This is the reason why Nik Aziz was the strongest bulwark of Pakatan and gave his blessings to the Pakatan common policy framework focussing on common policy positions among DAP, PKR and PAS while putting aside policy differences among the PR parties like hudud law,” Lim said in a statement today.
Lim added that Mohd Amar’s briefing on the planned hudud amendment during the Pakatan meeting was “most sketchy and unsatisfactory”.
He was responding to Mohd Amar’s statement that the door was closed to DAP for any attempts to stop the planned amendment.
Lim, who is also Gelang Patah MP, warned of Umno and BN elements acting as agents provocateurs to break up Pakatan.
“Pakatan leaders must be vigilant and on on the watch-out for Umno/BN agents provocateurs who are trying to wreak maximum damage to destabilise, divide and destroy Pakatan unity to distract attention from mounting Umno/BN woes.
“Pakatan leaders should focus on how to strengthen Pakatan unity, solidarity and effectiveness and not to create divisions and tensions among the Pakatan parties,” said Lim.
