As the debate on the source of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's wealth rages on, Solidariti Anak Muda Malaysia (SAMM) has urged Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin to set an example by declaring his wealth.

In a statement today, SAMM said that as a state representative and the chief executive of the Selangor government, which advocates transparency, it was only logical for Azmin to do so.

"The menteri besar (Azmin) should be brave enough to step forward and declare all his and his wife's assets, as well as make it a requirement for all Selangor exco (state executive council) members, MPs and local councillors to do the same," said SAMM coordinator Khairoll Anuar Almegat.

Meanwhile, SAMM also urged Cheras Umno division leader Syed Ali Alhabshee (right) to practise what he preached, as he was the one who had suggested that Azmin and all Selangor elected representatives disclose their assets.

Syed Ali, who was upset with the numerous attacks against Najib's wealth, dared all Pakatan Rakyat members to empty their pockets before the public.

"However, Syed Ali should also do the same so the people can examine the financial conditions of an Umno leader," Khairoll pointed out.

He said it was curious that while Syed Ali's call was aimed at Azmin, it was Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli who responded instead.

"It is a little funny when the Pandan MP (rather than Azmin) said he will declare his assets at the Parliament's lobby area soon," Khairoll added.

By publicly declaring all assets, he noted, the spirit of transparency and integrity of the state government would be upheld.

Apart from Rafizi, PAS Pokok Sena MP Mahfuz Omar has also announced his willingness to disclose his assets.

Meanwhile, Syed Ali said he has no problems declaring his wealth, but on condition that an independent mechanism be set up first.
