Pressure group Say No to Kidex (SNTK) has commended Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali for “keeping to his word” in relation to the Kinrara-Damansara Expressway (Kidex) project.

They also thanked him for issuing instructions on the expulsion of any and all mention of Kidex from the exploratory report of the Selangor State Structural Plan 2035.

“We wish to offer our sincere gratitude for his (Azmin's) consistency in good governance, transparency and accountability as seen by his public statement dated Feb 27,” said the group in a statement today.

Azmin - in a statement - had instructed the Selangor Town and Rural Planning Department that no suggestions regarding Kidex made by any third party, be taken into consideration during the preparation of the Selangor State Structural Plan 2035.

Furthermore, he cancelled the meeting which was to be held on March 10 for this purpose.

“In doing so, the menteri besar has safeguarded the interests of his August Office, the interests of the state and more importantly, the rights of the people from a legal perspective.

“We trust that this project is now terminated with finality and with proper adherence to the rule of law,” said the group.

Last week, it was reported that Azmin had put a stop to the controversial highway project.

The menteri besar pointed out that its concessionaire, Kidex Sdn Bhd, had failed to fulfil three conditions set by the state government.

Kidex, spanning 14.9km, was a fully-elevated highway project estimated to cost between RM2.2 to 2.4 billion.

For its length, Kidex is the country’s most expensive highway yet - at RM148 million per kilometre - to construct.

During Abdul Khalid Ibrahim's term as the state MB, the project had looked almost set to take off despite widespread objections.
