He said this in reference to DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang’s criticism of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak for speaking about Malay unity instead of Malaysian unity.
“Kit Siang, urging Malay unity does not mean Malaysian unity is sidelined. Malay unity is crucial for national stability. Why is DAP agitated?” Abdul Rahman said in a Twitter posting today.
Najib on Wednesday announced Umno will not contest the Chempaka by-election against PAS for the sake of “Muslim unity” and to focus on reconstructing Kelantan after devastating floods last year.
At this, Lim had said: “It is sad that 58 years after Merdeka, and six years after the launching of his 1Malaysia signature policy, Najib has retreated to talk about Muslim unity instead of Malaysian unity.”
Abdul Rahman, who is also Kota Belud MP, said DAP should instead be worried about DAP’s “increasing chauvinism and egoism” which is more “disruptive and dangerous”.
“History shows DAP’s bossy attitude whenever the political pendulum swings in their favour. But remember pendulums do swing back the other way,” he warned.
Abdul Rahman cited the example of DAP’s clash with PAS.
“DAP can't rule Malaysia without Malay support. So not belittling PAS is a no-brainer. But then again I don’t think DAP leaders have it,” he said.
Umno’s concession to PAS in the Chempaka by-election comes amid a clash between DAP and PAS.
DAP is opposed to PAS’ plan to implement hudud in Kelantan but the Islamic party is determined to push for the theocratic law.
